KidStriders @ Lovejoy

Dear Parent/Guardian,

On February 1st, 2017 we will be starting the KidStriders program. This is a goal-setting incentive program based primarily around walking or running. Participation is voluntary and free.

Between now and April 13, 2017, your student can complete a marathon distance, an accumulated total of 26 miles by walking/jogging at designated KidStriders sessions during recess. So what this means is that each time they walk/jog, the distance they do is added to the previous day’s distance, and so on until it adds up to 26 miles. (PLEASE NOTE: In this program, your child will likely NEVER run more than 1/8 mile to 2 miles at one time depending on their pace/ability.)

Students receive a Foot Token and other incentives when they reach certain mile markers. Those completing the 26-mile goal will receive a T-shirt at the end of the program and have the opportunity to participate in a Victory Run at the Grand Blue Mile presented by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa, Nationwide and the Drake Relays. If your child participates and completes the goal, you will receive notification of your child’s “eligibility” as well a required participation waiver to complete closer to the Grand Blue Mile scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Transportation to the event is the responsibility of the parent.

This program is an ideal platform for children to have fun and enhance self-esteem, all while teaching them the valuable lesson of making fitness a regular part of life, setting and accomplishing goals, and so much more. Your child is welcome to walk or jog with us even if they will not be completing the 26-mile program goal or participating in our finale event. Students are also welcome to go beyond the 26-mile goal and will continue to receive incentives if they do.

KidStriders will take place during outdoor recess time.
